About Nikokleia

Nikokleia Village - The community of Nikokleia is situated 17 kilometres south-east of Pafos and it is the first village to be found on the road toward the mountain resorts of Cyprus and toward Troodos. Transport from Nikokleia to Limassol takes about 25 minutes whereas going to Troodos takes about an hour. It is a 5 minute drive from the airport of Pafos.

According to tradition, the village took its name from "Nikokles" who was the last king of the ancient kingdom of Pafos and kept his palaces in the village. It is built at an average altitude of 80 meters, in a beautiful, natural landscape in the west bank of the Diarizos river. West of the village -and at a small distance -lies the Asprokremmos dam.

Vines of the wine-making variety, citrus-trees, legumes, peanuts, cereals, forage plants, vegetables, carobs, and olive trees were previously cultivated in the region of Nikokleia. Today the inhabitants of the village are occupied with various jobs in Pafos and have Farming and Stockbreeding as a secondary occupation.  A characteristic of Nikokleia's community is the large variety of birds, reptiles, and butterflies that exist in its region. Several ornithologists, herpetologists, and entomologists visit the area so as to study the above species. Quite a few of foreign and Cypriot tourists visit the region in order to admire these unique species that exist in the region.

The community has a very good climate with cool wind blowing down from the Troodos mountain range -in the summer - through the river's rift. In the spring a beautiful scent covers the region, which comes from the blooming of the various trees that exist in the whole range of the community. During the months of winter the climate is mild.
